Following his selection for the South West squad, Robbie Maclean (Year 8) has enjoyed further success at the next stage of selection for the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) national squad. Here is his account of his experience at a recent ISFA festival.

A block quotation (also known as a long quotation or extract) is a quotation in a written document, that is set off from the main text as a paragraph, or block of text, and typically distinguished visually using indentation and a different typeface or smaller size quotation.

On the first day we lost each game by the odd goal which we could mostly put down to fatigue from the journey and the fact that this was the first time we had played together as a team. Thankfully we improved on day two, beating a previously unbeaten London team and drawing with a strong North West.

The third game was a little disappointing, losing to what I felt was a weaker side. Day three included one good game and then we ran out of steam!

While our results were not the best, this did not prevent five members of our team from being identified by the ISFA national coaches for the development and national squads. I could not have been happier when I was invited to join the national squad in August. This team features the top 30 county players, the majority of whom are current academy players for professional clubs. The U14 National Elite Residential Camp takes place 6th - 8th August at Oakham School. It will involve training sessions with ISFA coaches and participation in games against academy opposition in a festival designed for their pre-season preparation. The standard will be high and I will need to play well. It will be tough as I have not played academy football for nearly a year. I am really looking forward to attending the camp which will be a huge challenge but a great opportunity to develop my football.
