Within the department we aim to make school an exciting and stimulating experience for our children. We believe that children learn best from first-hand experiences and we encourage them to develop socially and emotionally as well as academically. We have an ethos of outdoor learning and use our extensive school grounds to promote this.

We use the Early Years Foundation Stage and the new National Curriculum as a basic framework for our teaching but have the freedom to develop children’s learning by offering them a wide and varied curriculum which is delivered through a topic-based approach.

The facilities available to our children include their own secure playground with trim trail and play equipment, a wild wood area for outdoor learning, use of the school playing fields and AstroTurf and weekly sessions in the ICT suite. They also benefit from specialist teaching in Music, PE and swimming, French, and (from Year 1) ICT.
